Albania Flag

The history of the Albanian flag is very long because the Albanian flag has many variations with the passage of time. Since 1914 to 1992 Albanian flag has faced various changes. On 7th April 1992, the Albanian flag was officially recognized as the national flag of Albania. While it was adopted by the coat of arms on 22nd may 1993. In all the Albanian flag’s versions one thing was common that is an eagle on the flag.

In the 1914 era, the eagle beak and claw color was golden and a golden arrow was in its hand. At the top of eagle’s head there was a star with five corners. In the era of 1920, there came some variations, when Albania becomes a republic country. Then at that time, the eagle color was full black and the background of the flag was red. Later on in the era of 1939, when Italian occupied the country, then at that time, the eagle was still of black color but on a red shield. In 1944, at the upper corner of the flag, a hammer and sickle was added. In 1946, the hammer and sickle was removed. In the same year a star with five corners and with golden borders was added in the Albanian flags, and was printed at the heads of the eagle. Then at last in 1992, when Albania again becomes a republic country, all additions were removed from the flag and flag was again returned to its original condition.

The Albania flag is also known as the “flamur e skenderbeut” or Skanderbeg’s flag. These are the nick names of the flag of Albania.

The current version of the National flag of Albania has certain features; that is, the Albania flag is made in the proportion of 5:7. There is an eagle drawn on the Albanian flag. The other reason for using the eagle on the national flag of Albania is that Albania people think that eagle gives suggestions to their king. So there are different stories regarding the use of eagle. While the red color is always used for the blood shed of freedom fighters, which had fought for the freedom of the Albania country for so long.

There are two other National Albania flags; one is used in the Albania parliament. This Albania flag also has black eagle with two heads and it background is also red. The difference in this flag is that there is a golden helmet at the heads of the eagle and this helmet is the symbol of the Albanian hero Skanderbeg. This helmet is also printed on the shield.

The second flag is used for the Albania’s president. This Albanian flag is almost same as the national flag of Albania but the difference is that the president’s flag is not rectangle. It is square in shape.
