Bermuda Flag

The history of the Bermuda flag is not so long and also not very controversial. In Bermuda there is an internal self-Government of Bermuda and it is an overseas British territory. Bermuda flag was first adopted on 4th October 1910. The unofficial version of the flag of Bermuda was first adopted by the coat of arms on 4th October 1910, but it was approved officially very late, in October 1967. The flag of Bermuda was approved officially by the government of Bermuda.

There are some other Bermuda’s flag on which a motto of Bermuda is drawn under the ensign of coat of arms; but that Bermuda flag with motto is not the official flag of Bermuda. The official flag of Bermuda has no motto on the flag.

The Bermuda flag with red ensign was initially used by the sea ships in 1915. On 19th august 1955, in the context of red ensign flag it was report by the Bermuda government; “in spite of the fact that no executive approval come into view, Red Ensign with the coat of arms in the fly is commonly used not only in private owned vehicles but also on private buildings aground."

"Colonial Office’s Records explain no approval has been specified for the exercise of the Red Ensign in this way, but its practice is obviously well-known and it would almost certainly be hard to try to halt the practice."

The description of the Bermuda flag is very simple; the flag of Bermuda is made in the proportion 1:2. The background of the Bermuda flag is red. At the upper left corner of the flag of Bermuda union jack is drawn which touches the upper left corner of the Bermuda flag base. The upper background of the coat of arms is white and the lower base background is made with green grass color. An ensign of lion is drawn on the coat of arm’s emblem of Barbuda flag. The lion is holding a shield and within the shield there is a light blue color sailing sea is drawn at the bottom. A brown color sailing ship is flowing on the sea and also light brown color mountain is drawn at the left side. Lion hands and feet are shown outside the shield.
The Bermuda flag meaning is not explained in detail anywhere; just an explanation of union jack is given. Union jack depict that the Bermuda is one of many island which comes in the Britain territory. There is not any valid explanation given for the coat of arms and the red color on the Bermuda’s flag.

Except the national Bermuda flag, there is another Bermuda flag which is also used officially in the country that is; union flag or governor flag of Bermuda. On the background of the union Bermuda flag, union jack is drawn and in the middle of the union Bermuda flag emblem of coat of arms is drawn; but this coat of arms is encircle with the leave green color things.
