Bhutan Flag
The history of Bhutan flag is not so long but the flag of Bhutan had experienced some variations related to colors on the Bhutan flag. History on Bhutan flag is started from 19th century. The first Bhutan flag was designed by the king of Bhutan; Jigme Wangchuck in 1949, when the indo-Bhutan agreement was signed. The Bhutan flag was square in shape and divided diagonally in yellow and red background. The yellow color was on the upper hoist corner of the Bhutan flag while the red color was in the lower fly and there was a green color dragon at the middle of the flag of Bhutan. Later on, in 1956 colors of the Bhutan’s flag was changed again when the royal tour was held in Bhutan. This Bhutan flag was almost same as the previous flag of Bhutan, made in 1949. Some variations occurred in colors of the Bhutanese flag in 1956. The color of the upper hoist diagonal was changed into dark brown color and the lower fly portion of the Bhutan flag was changed into yellow color and the color of dragon was changed into white color.
The current Bhutan flag was changed first, when an official visit from India was held in Bhutan in the late 1950’s, so it was noticed that the square flag could not fly like India flag and also when the flag was flown, the dragon face was towards earth. So as a result, the flag of Bhutan was redesigned according to the India flag in 9 to 6 feet proportion. The dragon direction and the color of the dragon on the flag were also changed. So the flag which was adopted on 1969 have white color dragon, yellow/orange color upper diagonal and red color lower diagonal. After the independence of Bhutan from India on 8th august 1949, this flag was still used as the official flag of Bhutan.

The description of the Bhutan’s flag is simple; the flag of Bhutan is made in the proportion 2:3. The background of the Bhutan flag is divided diagonally into two portions. The upper hoist portion of the Bhutan’s flag is orange/yellow color, while the lower fly diagonal portion of the flag is red in color. An emblem of dragon is made at the center of the Bhutanese flag facing towards the right side of the flag at the fly portion of the flag.
