Brazil Flag

The history of Brazilian flag is very old and also had experienced some variations. The first flag of Brazil was come into existence when the Brazil gained independence on 7th September 1822 from the portugalians. From 18th September 1822 to 15th November 1889, there was a flag named empire flag, used as the Brazils flag. Flag Brazil with green background and yellow color diamond shape was drawn in the middle, but in the middle of the flag of Brazil, the imperial coat of arms was drawn. When the Brazil become a republic country, at that time new flag of Brazil was introduced. That flag was used just for 4 days, from 15th November 1889 to 19th November 1889, because that flag resembled with the flag of United States of America. Therefore some color combinations was changed. The father of the nation of Brazil, who was the acting president of the Brazil (field marshal Deodoro da fonseca), suggested that the new flag of brazil would be like the flag of imperial. So on 19th November 1889 the new flag of Brazil came into existence with a blue circle in the middle of the flag, with stars and motto on the flag.

The flag of Brazil which is in use as the official Brazilian flag was actually adopted as the national Brazils flag on 11th may 1992. The flag of Brazil which was adopted officially and designed by the help of four people; the concept was of raimundo teixeira mendes, along with the help of Manuel Pereira reis, Miguel lemos and actually designed by the decio vilares.

The description of the Brazil country flag is: the flag of Brazil is made in the proportion of 2:3. There are four colors used on the flag of Brazil. The background of the Brazil flag is green. At the center of the flag Brazil a rhombus is drawn. It is more like a diamond and the color of the Brazil flag diamond is yellow. Then within the rhombus a blue color circular disc is drawn and within the circle there are 27 stars of white color and these stars are of five different sizes. There is also a white color curved band drawn almost in the middle of the blue disc. This band is starting from one side and then ends on the other side of the disc. There is a motto written on the Brazilian flag which is “ordem e progresso”. The color of the motto is almost same as the background green color of the Brazils flag. Drawing of the Brazilian flag’s blue color disc is very complex, as the stars locations are made according to appropriate calculations of distance.

The meaning of the Brazil flag has two views; first view is that green and yellow color depicts Braganca and Habsburg royal houses. Stars depict the sky over Rio de janerio (Brazilian first republic day). 27 stars depict federal district of Brazil and also Brazilian states. When Brazil become republic there was 21 states and so the 21 stars on the flag, but later on with the declaration of more states, stars were also increased unto 27 until now. The meaning of motto is order and progress. While some people say that the green color depicts the Amazon’s forest and Atlantic jungle and the yellow color depicts gold reserves in the country.
