Cyprus Flag
The history of the flag of Cyprus is not very old; it has roots only in the 19th century. The Cyprus was also a colony of Britain and was under the monarchy of Britain for so long time. When the Cyprus gained independence from the Britain in 1960 then at that time, there was the need of Cyprus national flag. So in 1960, the president of the Cyprus had selected the flag of Cyprus, his name was Mgr. Makarios. He got this proposal from a school teacher, but the actual message was given by the Fazil Küçük, who was the vice president of Cyprus. So the flag of Cyprus was approved on 16th august 1960. Later on, in 2004 a contest was held for the making of a new flag of Cyprus. This contest was held by the committee of Turkish and Greek Cypriotians, and a new flag of Cyprus was selected, but after some time that flag was discarded by some most of the people of Cyprus. The Cyprus flag was approved by the coat of arms on 16th august 1960.
The name of the Cyprus is taken from the Greek terminology, as there are many reservoirs of copper in the Cyprus, and the other name of copper in Greek terminology is Cyprus metal. Actually the map of island on the Cyprus flags was going to be the copper color, because the Cyprus is famous for its copper metal, but the decision was changed and the yellow color was selected for the map of island for the sake of convenient imitation. In Cyprus it is the right of every citizen that they can place the flag of Greek, Turkish and Cyprus flag on there residence without any precincts.
