Fiji Flag
After the independence of the Fiji as a republic state, the history of the Fiji flag has experienced some variations. Just some changes regarding the background color and some other things were occurred. After the independence of the Fiji, a competition was held for the designing of the Fijian flag in 1990. That competition was won by two people name; Mrs. Murray MacKenzie and Mr. Robi Wilcock, and that design was selected for the national flag of Fiji. But that design was not approved for the national flag of Fiji. It was decided by the government that a flag of Fiji would not change and would remain same as the old flag of Fiji, because after the independence of Fiji, it was still under the pressure of the British government, and they didn’t allow changes in the Fiji flag. That is the quite reason, that the current flag of Fiji is almost same as the old flag of Fiji. Also because Fiji still has firm financial and political adjustments with British government. The background of the Fiji flag was changed, before the independence of the Fiji the background of the flag was dark blue, while after independence it changed to light blue color, to ensure that it is different from the commonwealth countries of the British government. The flag of Fiji was approved by the coat of arms on 4th July 1908.

The description of the Fiji flag is little bit complicated because of the emblem of coat of arms on the flag of Fiji. The Fiji flag is made in the proportion of the 1:2. The background of the Fiji flag is of light blue color. At the upper left side of the flag of Fiji, union jack of the United Kingdom is drawn. The Union jack has covered almost one quarter of the flag of Fiji. At the right side of the Fiji flag, in the quite right center of the flag, coat of arms of Fiji is drawn. Before the independence of the Fiji, there was a white shield behind the coat of arms on the Fiji flag. The coat of arms, at the bottom portion is divided into four parts via drawing a Saint George’s cross on the coat of arms. The upper side of the coat of arms, red strip is made. In the four quarters of the coat of arms, at the top left quarter of the coat of arms three sugar canes are drawn. At the top right quarter of the coat of arms, a coconut palm is drawn. At the bottom left quarter of the coat of arms, an olive branch and a dove is drawn. While at the fourth right bottom quarter of the arms, a bunch of bananas is drawn. On the top red color strip a yellow color loin is drawn, that is grasping a pared coconut.
The meaning of the Fiji flag is simple; the union jack on the flag depicts the strong association of Fiji with British government. The Pacific Ocean is depicted by the blue color on the flag of Fiji. Dove is pictured which depicts the peace in the country. The old colonial past of the Fiji is depicted by the two emblem of the coat of arms. While the golden lion depicts the Britain, as the Fiji is still under the influence of Britain. While the Red Cross in the middle of the coat of arms depicts the saint George crosses.
