Finland Flag

The history of the Finland national flag is not very old, it has traces only in the 19th century, but the history of the Finland itself is back in the 18th century. As the Finland was under the rule of Russia for very long time, since 1899 – 1917, but the nation of the Finland want their own national flag and country. This was not possible under the rule of Russia. So by the gradual struggle of the people of Finland and they gained impetus for the national flag of Finland in 1917 and at last in 1918, the flag of Finland was adopted as the Finland national flag. But actually it was adopted by the coat of arms of Finland on 26th May 1978.

The Finland flag is almost same as the Denmark’s flag and the flag of Sweden accept some difference regarding the colors of these flags. In the law of the Finland, it is stated that the flag of Finland will never be damaged or filthy within the country or outside the country, also the adornment and vandalize of the Finland flag is not allowed.

The flag of Finland must be dried indoor, after washing it. Finland flag must not be used for any other purpose, other than the official flowing of the Finland. Also the respect of the Finland flag is must and the flag should not be buried or placed on the ground.

The description of the Finland flag is very unique as the Finland national flag is made in the proportion of 11:18, which is a very unusual proportion of any flag of the world, most of the flags are made in the 2:3 proportion. The background of Finland flag is of white color. An unequal cross is drawn on the flag of Finland. The color of the cross on the Finland national flag is blue. The horizontal line of the cross on the Finland flag is drawn exactly in the middle of the Finland flag, while the vertical line of the cross on the Finland flag is drawn slightly at the left side of the flag. The cross lines are running at the ends of the flag borders.

The meaning of the Finland flag color is simple and not controversial. As the blue color on the flag depicts the lakes of the Finland and the white color depicts the Finland’s white snow. The white color also shows the peace and harmony. The cross on the flag, is the most common things on most of the flags of Scandinavian countries, actually depicts the saint George cross. But the cross on the Finland flag depicts the traditional association of the Finland with the other Scandinavian countries.

There are many other different Finland flags that are used with in the country for different purposes. Like the state flag of Finland, this flag has an emblem of the Finland coat of arms drawn on the central square of the cross. The other Finland flags are Swallow- Tailed war flag or the state flag with swallow tail.

The large flag of Finland is hoisted specially at the independence day of the Finland, or usually made by the patriots of the Finland for the independence day of Finland.
