The history of flag of guinea is not very old, only has roots backed in the 19th century in the era of late 50s. The people of the guinea had struggle a lot for the independence of the guinea and this is the reason, the flag of guinea is painted with the bloodshed of the freedom fighters. Guinea is also an African country, so the Pan-African colors of the Africa, are shown on the guinea flag. The guinea’s flag colors strip are mostly same as the flag of Ghana, Guinea-Bissau flag, the reason is that all of these have used the Pan-African colors. Actually the Guinea’s flag design is taken from the flag of France. The colors on the flag of France are red, blue and white, replaced by the traditional African colors that are Pan-African colors (Green, Red and Yellow) on the Guinea flag.

After a long struggle for the freedom, Guinea became independent on 2nd October 1958 and came out from the rule of France. After that flag of guinea was originally approved as the national flag of guinea on 10th November 1958. While adopted by the coat of arms on 23rd December 1993.

The description of the Guinea’s flag is very simple. The flag of guinea is made in the proportion of 2:3. There are three vertical strips on the Guinea flag, with red, yellow and green color. The first vertical strip drawn on the flag of Guinea at the hoist side of the flag is of red color. The last or third vertical strip drawn on the Guinea flag at the flown side of the flag is of green color. The middle strip drawn on Guinea’s flag is of yellow color. The size of all three strips is equal, both in length and in width.

The meaning of the Guinea flag is also simple and without any controversies. The colors of the Guinea flag symbolize the motto of the Guinea. When the Guinea become independent on 1958, then at that time, the first president of Guinea named; SEKOU TOURE, defined the meaning of the colors on the Guinea flag. He was alive since 1984, and ruled the country for so long time until his death. He explained that meaning in a speech. He stated that: Red depicts the bloodshed of the anti-colonialist freedom fighters. He compared the red color with the sweat of the agriculturalist, factory workforce and the other personnel of the country’s solid body. And also relate it with the ambition for the evolution. All these specifications of the red color matched with the first motto of the Guinea that is TRAVAIL means “work”. The yellow color depicts the gold of the Guinea and the sun of the Africa as Guinea is an African country. He also relates the yellow color with the source of power, bounteousness and egalitarianism for all the people. So the specifications of the yellow color totally fulfill the meaning of the second motto of Guinea that is “JUSTICE”. The green color depicts the foliage of Africa.

Guinea 85% population is mostly related to the farming field, and they live at countryside, and this area is almost sheltered with the green veil. Green color also depicts the prosperity of the country, which actually comes up from the fertile soil of the country.
