Guyana Flag
The history of the Guyana flag is not very old, only has roots in the 19th century. Before the independence of Guyana, the Guyana was under the British monarchy. Before the independence of Guyana the name of the current Guyana was “Guiana” when the Guyana was under the British monarchy. After independence of Guyana the name of the Guyana was changed. For the designing of the flag of Guyana a contest was held by the government of Guyana in 1962, lot of entries came for this contest, and many designs were came after the contest. But the person who won the contest was an American vexillologist; name of that lucky person was Dr. Whitney smith. The design of the Guyanese flag which was made by the Dr. Whitney smith was little bit different than the current national flag of Guyana. The design made by Dr. Whitney smith did not contain any black border around the red triangle and also there was not any white border around yellow triangle. So later on, this modification was occurred on the flags of Guyana that is black and white borders on the red and yellow triangle. Just after the independence of Guyana from the British monarchy the national flag of Guyana was adopted on 26th may 1966, and also adopted by the coat of arms in 1966. The flag of Guyana is also known by the name of Golden Arrowhead.
The description of the Guyana flag is little bit complex because of the triangle design on the flag. The flag of Guyana is very unique, there is not any other flag which is made in this pattern at some extent and there is not any resemblance of the Guyana flag with any other country flags. The flag of Guyana is made in the proportion of 3:5. The background of the flag of Guyana is of green color.
There are two isosceles triangles drawn on the flag in hoist to flown direction, and the point of the bigger triangle touches the end of the flown part. The first bigger isosceles triangle is drawn in hoist to flown direction, both ends of this triangle touches the two ends of the flag. The color of bigger isosceles triangle is yellow and a white color border is drawn around it. The other relatively small triangle is drawn also in the hoist to flown direction. But it ends at the center of the bigger yellow color isosceles triangle. The color of this small triangle is red, and a black color border is drawn around it.
