Liberia Flag

The history of the Liberian flag is very old dated back in the 18th century. When the Liberia gained independence from the rule of America in 1847, then there was need of national flag for the country. The flag of Liberia was accepted by the Liberia officials on 26th July 1847. Still after independence, the Liberia is a colony of America that’s the reason of resemblance of flags.

The Flag of Liberia has alternating Red and white stripes with a blue square area containing a star monogram in white. In the early years of the 1800s, Liberia was developed by at that time freed from American slaves and those were its early citizens, and they had begun the struggle for naming their country for liberty itself. The country, as history tells, was originally recognized as a colony and that too, one that belonged to the USA. The Liberian flag is one that has a design that is very similar to the flag of the United States of America. Those are blue, red and white, the colors are distributed along the national flag of Liberia in a very unique pattern and this was the official first Liberian flag. Its design is as follows: eleven horizontal stripes alternately red and white in color, and even now the design is: eleven stripes that are red and white and are in the following pattern. Top stripe is red then white then red, then white then red, then white and then red and that goes on in the same sequence and they end up making a total of eleven stripes of which six are red and five are white in color. All from top till bottom are stripes of these colors and these stripes form a design which shows that the original base of the flag was all white and the red stripes are added on it as after thought. The uniqueness of the Liberia flag is as there is situated in the top left hand side corner of the flag there is a sort of blue colored square shape which seems to have a monogram which is with a white star and its positioning is right in the middle and it is seen as the flag is flown that the sun has 5 alternating points.

The 11 alternating red and white color strips on the flag represent the 11 participants who signed the papers of the Liberian proclamation of independence. The audacity and moral excellence is depicted by the red and white colors on the flag. The liberty of ex-slaves is depicted by white color star.
