Lithuania Flag

The Lithuania flag history is not that much old only resides in 19th century. As the flag was approved by the officials of Lithuania on 20th march 1989. The flag of Lithuania consists of three horizontal stripes. Top is yellow, the middle one is green and the bottom stripe is Red. It was then told by historian, as Lithuania adopted its old tricolor flag as its official flag for representation in March 1989. The Lithuanian flag was used during the period that was called Lithuania's period of independence and that marked its freedom from Russia. This period was from the year 1918 to the year 1940. It was created as its currently designed style in the year 1918 replacing the historical flag that was known as the red flag. This was one featuring the Vytis or white knight on a horse, which had been used by Lithuania for centuries. The Soviet Union, as it is seen through history, took control over the country again in the year 1944 and outlawed the flag. On September 20 in the year 1989, however it is seen; Lithuania announced independence again from the Soviet Union.

The use of three colors on the flag makes its description very simple and easy to explain. The flag is made with the proportion of 1:2. The flag of Lithuania consists of three stripes which are equally placed in a little bit of difference in the size only. The top stripe is of the color yellow, that is the first stripe, and the middle stripe is of the color green, the last and final stripe on the Flag of Lithuania is made of the color Red. The yellow color stripe in the flag of Lithuania and the green color stripe in the flag of Lithuania are both of equal shape and length. Like all other flags of the world the Flag of Lithuania is also comprised of colors that have a very great symbolic value. Similar to the green and yellow that is the first and second stripe the Red stripe is also there to represent something about the country that is blessed with natural resources and prosperity. Lithuanian's flag colors are simple and based on the traditional national dress of that country the yellow stripe is present there and is there to represent the sun, one thing famous in Lithuania is the Lithuania's fields of wheat and prosperity; the green color is used to symbolize the country's green and forests, its flora and the ever lasting hope of the people; and the color red is used as it stands for the blood spilt for independence during the struggle and fight by the people, the courage and the people's love for Lithuania.

It would be an interesting factor to note about the flag that homeowners who are residing in all three Baltic states which are namely Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as it is seen to be a custom that, they are obliged to fly their national flags on the respective Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian independence days. Disobedience by any house or any individual to fly and exhibit the national flag could result in a heavy fine and even some times put to jail.
