Macedonia Flag

Greece already had a province called Macedonia and feared Macedonia had intentions to extend its border to include Greek Macedonia. Greece also objected to the use of Alexander the Great's Star of Vergina, which appeared on Macedonia's original flag (from 1991 to 95) as Greeks believed the symbol culturally belonged to Greece and wasn't a Slavic symbol. Macedonia then removed the star from their flag.

The official Flag of Macedonia came into existence on October 5th in the year 1995 not a very long time ago. In the year 1991 Macedonia gained its independence from the clutches of Yugoslavia and that happened on September 8th 1991, until the time that Macedonia was in the clutches of Yugoslavia the color of the Macedonian flag was red with a red star on the top left corner of the flag. Greece then objected to that and began to call itself Macedonia and designed a new national flag of Macedonia. As Greece already had a province called Macedonia and they were very afraid that Macedonia would extend itself and take over their provinces. Then it was also an objection from Greece objected to the use of Alexander the Great's Star of Vergina, which actually appeared on the original flag of Macedonia, from 1991 to 95, as Greeks believed that the symbol was one that culturally belonged to Greece and was not a Slavic symbol. It was then that the Country Macedonia removed the star from their flag.

The colors of the flag are very simple only two colors: Red color and yellow are present on the flag. If someone was to ask what the colors are it would be easy to explain. It is also easier to explain and draw the picture of the Flag of Macedonia as it has a very simple design as well. Its background is of red color and in the center of the red flag a big yellow round circle is present which looks like a sun with 8 extending rays, which widen atop a red background.

So it is a red flag of Macedonia with a yellow sun having 8 rays extending from its center. The red color has been a very significant one throughout the history of the flags of Macedonia and that is why it is used for the final official flag as well. The sun symbolizes the new sun of liberty, a sign of independence, a sign that Macedonia finally found sovereignty and the mention of the sun and the new sun of liberty has been made in the countries national anthem as well. According to a 1997 Macedonian law, no foreign countries flags can be hosted or flown from any public buildings but it can be flown on some specific public or religious holidays and they might be flown beside the Macedonian flag. This law affects mostly the use of the Albanian flag because it was used on public buildings in Western Macedonia. The law was functional by police action against municipal authorities in the towns where the Albanian flag was removed from the town halls. This led to objections, protests and lastly turned into a bad rioting.

Because of this act 3 people died and over 50 persons were injured and people seized or detained. In a protest on July 12, 1997 many people including Albanian and some Macedonian burnt the flag of Macedonia in Tirana (the Albanian capital). On internet one can find Photos of the Macedonian flag as well as the description of the Macedonian flag in the form of Macedonian Flag wall papers.
