Mexico Flag

The current flag of Mexico was adopted in 1968. However the final design has been being used by the country officially in the year 1821, the design of the flag of Mexico changed officially throughout history around about four times. And these changes were due to the changes in the coat of arms design and the changes in ratios between the size of strips and bands. The final design of the flag of Mexico is greatly influenced by the flags that were used by Spain during the war times. The first official flag of Mexico was made and established in 1821 that was the first year when Mexico became independent. When the first federal republic was established in around the year 1823 that was when the 2nd flag of Mexico was established that flag was different as: the shape of the center emblem was changed, the crown that was on the eagles head was removed and the serpent was then placed in the eagle’s right talon. The second Mexican flag empire gave rise to the 3rd flag of Mexico in which the ratios of that flag were changed and the color scheme was same. All three different flags have same tricolor scheme.

The current flag of Mexico is easy to explain it is a tricolor flag of Mexico. The design and the coloration of the National flag of Mexico are very unique yet very simple. The National flag of Mexico is based on a rectangular design which has a tri color scheme and those colors are divided in to three stripes that are of equal width. If any one was to ask that what is the design of the National flag of Mexico and what are the colors used the answer would be a very simple one and that would be, simple design and the use of only three colors. The first stripe on the National flag of Mexico is of the color green. The second stripe on the National flag of Mexico which is technically the middle stripe is of the color white and the last stripe which would technically be the first stripe from the right side on the National flag of Mexico is of the color red. The three stripes are placed in vertical positions and all are of equal in width. The meaning of the three colors is not certain as they are continuously changing over time but the design is consistent before the independence war with Spain.

The stripes on Mexico's flag are believed to represent the following: the green stripe symbolizes hope; the white symbolizes religion; and the red symbolizes independence and the unity of the nation. In coat of arms there is a picture of an eagle sitting or perched on a prickly pear cactus. The eagle is sitting and is holding a serpent, which is another name for a snake, in its talons (the talon of an eagle is known as its claws as well in simpler terms). The cactus is said to be situated on a rock that is rising out of the lake. This picture is taken from an Aztec legend that tells a tale of God telling a group of wandering Aztec Indians that when they came across an eagle eating a snake while perched on a nopal cactus growing out of a rock surrounded by water, they were to create their home. This spot eventually became Mexico City. This scenario with the eagle eating a snake is depicted on the Mexican coat of arms. The flag of Mexico was flown officially on September 16, 1968 and the dimensions of the flag are of ratio 4:7 the current flag is used as the Mexican flag naval ensign by ships registered in Mexico.
