Michigan Flag

The history of the Michigan flag is one of the old flag histories. The roots of the flag of Michigan are dated back in the 18th century. Yet, the flag of Michigan was not legislated in the Michigan’s constitution for so long time till 1865. But the constitutional adoption of the Michigan flag was so much delayed after the creation of the Michigan as a state of America. The Michigan became state of the United States of America on 26th january 1837. The Michigan came in the union of united state of america at the end of the 20th century as the Michigan is the 26th number state that joined the union. In the old flag coat of arms was included on the flag, but later on, in 1837 the coat of arms was included on the flag of Michigan. The flag introduced in 1865 having coat of arms, features blue background at the front of the flag while at the back side of the flag the coat of arms of united states of america was drawn. The process of adoption of the Michigan flag has experienced a very long delay since 1837 to the 1911 according to the legislative constitution. The recent flag of Michigan was embraced by the people of Michigan on 1st August 1911. The name by which the Michigan state is known generally is wolverine state or the state of great lakes. The flag introduced in 1865 having two sides is rare now.

The description of the Michigan flag is not that much simple because of the complicated emblem on the flag. The flag of Michigan is made in the proportion of 2:3, 3 :5, 5 :8. A picture is also made on the flag and that is of a moose and an elk that are holding up a shield that has a monogram printed in the center part and is also available as Michigan Flag clip art and that has an eagle placed on top of the shield. There is also present a banner in the feet of both the moose and the elk and that has writing on it.
On the blue shield there is the sun that is shown as it rises above a lake and peninsula. There is a man with his raised hand and that man is holding a gun that is used to represent peace and also to represent the ability that he has to defend his rights and over all the flag of Michigan is the representation of the people’s ability to defend their freedom. The elk and moose are used in the flag as they are symbol of Michigan, while the eagle represents entire region and shows the association of Michigan with the United States. The state motto is also written featuring; Si Quaeris Peninsulam Amoenam Circumspice, meaning of this motto is if you seek a nice peninsula, look about you. This motto is written under the animals on the flag. On the flag three arrows are drawn along with a branch of olive, that olive branch contains 13 olives. The arrows depict the eagerness of nation to protect the principles of state. The 13 olives on the olive branch depict the original 13 states of the United States of America. The olive branches depict the wish for tranquility in the state. At the head of eagle the motto of the nation is written that is E Pluribus Unum and it means from many, one.
