Monaco Flag

The history of the Monaco is much older than the history of Monaco flag. The Monaco was under the monarchy of Italy for so long time but on 8th January 1297, Monaco emerged as an independent state and become free from the rule of Italy. The flag adoption was occurred after so many centuries of freedom. The flag was embraced officially on 4th April 1881. The historical flag of Monaco was known as the Monaco lozengy flag for quite a long time when it was newly adopted. This Monaco flag has been used on miscellaneous occasions, late in the times of the 17th century till the present day. That flag of Monaco composed of lozenges in the Grimaldi family colors and was used for so long time particularly in the 1600’s but that was as an unofficial flag of Monaco. That flag of Monaco still can be seen painted in some Royal photographs but now, it has no designated use and therefore doesn’t represent any of the Monegasque officials at all. Currently the flag of Monaco that is used officially as the national flag of Monaco is almost same as the old flag of Monaco with a slight difference of coat of arms. In the old flag the country coat of arms was painted on it. While on the new flag just two bands of red and white color is drawn excluding the emblem of coat of arms. The old flag was used for so long time in the country except in the time era when Monaco was an annexation to France from the year 1793 to the year1814.

The description of the national flag of the country Monaco is very simple and therefore easily explainable, if somebody asks that what the colors of Monaco flag are. There will be a simple answer that is: only two colors. The estimated ratios of the flag of Monaco are 4:5 or even 2:3 respectively the size of the two colored bands. The flag of Monaco has only two colors; red color and white color, and they are drawn in the form of two horizontal thick bands.

Both of these bands are of equal size. The red color band or stripe is first at the top part of the flag of Monaco and the bottom one is white.
