morocco Flag
The official Flag of the country Morocco was adopted as final flag on the 2nd March in the year 1956; hence it is a very old flag of Morocco history. Before that many flags were made and many designs were tried out to symbolize or act as the flags of the country or the national Moroccan flag. The decisions taken regarding the design of the flag of Morocco was to keep the flag red in color. This was considered as a symbol of the royalty and a symbol of Royal Makhzen. The national flag of Morocco also hold the 6 branch green star that was placed in the center of the red strip and that stayed as the national Moroccan flag until the royal Dahir, in 1915, changed the 6 branches of the star to only 5 branches or points.
The Moroccan Flag is very simple to describe as it has very simple design and is composed of very simple colors as well. If anyone was to ask what the colors of the national flag of Morocco it would hold a very simple answer, green and red in color and holds only those two colors. The 6 branch or six pointed star that was used in the center of the flag of Morocco was known as the seal of Solomon also known as Sulaiman (in Arabic language) and also known as the start of David but this is not the truth behind the six point star used in the flag of Morocco. The star and its points stood for a symbol of life, wisdom, and good health which was an important symbol to all three of the major Monotheistic Religions. The 6 points star was removed by General Lyautey when he was getting ready to send his army to fight during the World War I. The reason he gave for changing the star points is not very clear and is hence not valid anymore but the people of Morocco gave another explanation which seems to be more valid and appropriate: the 5 points in the star symbolize the religion practiced is Islam.

So the five points could be used to symbolize the five pillars of Islam. Until independence it was restricted as the National Moroccan Flag in the French Zone and was used as the merchant flag in Tangier. After independence however it still remained the national flag of Morocco on land and also used as civil and state flag. The Flag of Morocco is of various types and are used for various purposes. Many alterations were made to change the purpose and meaning of the flag. The change in the flag is brought in the flag with the addition of a yellow stared crown placed on the top left corner of the flag of Morocco and this is the ensign used for The Civil ensign. The proportions of that flag of Morocco are 2:3 respectively. The second alteration is done where there is a yellow one stared crown placed in each corner of the original Moroccan flag and that is used as the Naval Ensign and the proportions for that flag is also 2:3 respectively.
