Mozambique Flag

The Mozambique flag history is not very old only dates back in the 19th century. When the Mozambique becomes free from the rule of Portugal in 25th June 1975, then at that time Mozambique people had thought about the national flag. So after 5 to 6 years of independence the flag adoption was occurred in May 1, 1983, and the Mozambique flag was approved. The flag of Frelimo was considered the biggest source of inspiration as far as the designing was concerned. The Frelimo flag was the flag of the Mozambique Liberation front organization. That was the association which fought and led the movement for the independence of the country. Both the design and the coloration in Mozambique flag are more or less is the same as the flag of Frelimo. Only difference is that, the current flag of Mozambique has no emblem on the flag. The flag of Frelimo was used in the country officially as the intermediary flag, in the times when the Frelimo leader was the president of Mozambique at the very start when the Mozambique emerged as an independent state in 1975.

Later on, when the new president came the design of the flag was changed and still that changed design is in use.

For the designing of the Mozambique flag a contest was held in 1999 and total 199 entries came for the designing.
