Netherlands Flag

The National flag of Netherlands was officially adopted as the National flag to represent the country on the 19, February 1937. Holland national flag as history has shown was originally of the colors: orange, white and blue and it was also one that featured up to a total number of nine stripes. The Netherlands flag is nicknamed as 'Prince's Flag' and it was called that was based on the heraldic colors (coat of arms) of Prince William of Orange, who led the campaign for the fight and struggle for the country’s independence against Spanish rule in the year 1568. The Netherlands independence as it is seen through the historical study was finally recognized by Spain in the year 1648. In the early part and right up to the mid-17th century, the orange stripe was changed into red but the reason is still known and is therefore unclear. One theory is that the red is more visible and can easily be noticed as compared to orange that is why they choose red instead of orange when viewed from a distance. Red, white and blue were officially announced as the colors that were the final colors of the Dutch National flag in 1796. The flag was banned for a short period at the turn of the 19th century after France occupied and started to control the Netherlands. The Netherlands was again pronounced as independent in the year 1813 and the flag was reinstated as the National Flag.
