Oman Flag
The official flag of the country of Oman also known as the Sultanate of Oman was adopted finally on the 18th of November 1995. After that the flag design was adopted, the design was put through a number of alterations and different designs were constructed with the same theme and some with different themes and finally the following flag was adopted in the year 1970 and that changed the Official flag of Oman. The son of the ruling Sultan in the year 1970 started a coup d’état and that whole thing resulted in the name of the country changed from Sultanate of Muscat and Oman. That was the time again that the design was changed and a white stripe and a green stripe were added to the flag of Oman which was previously an entirely red colored flag. At that time with that addition the country’s emblem was also added along with the stripes. The emblem is situated on the top corner of the vertically shaped stripe which is of the color red as specified earlier.
The description of the flag of Oman is very interesting it is comprised of as mentioned earlier of three horizontal shaped stripes these are from top to bottom and then there is another stripe on the left side which sort of cuts the other three stripes which is vertically placed. The colors of the three strips and the fourth one are also simple they are: the top horizontal stripe is of the color white, the middle horizontal stripe is of the color red and the bottom horizontal stripe is of the color green. Situated on the left side the vertically shaped stripe is again of the color red. The country’s national emblem is situated on the top part of the vertical stripe and that is a picture of two crossed swords with a dagger which is called a Khanjar and a belt is also in the picture.

The meanings of the colors used in the flag of Oman are very simple and very old as well as unique. The red color in the flag of Oman has been inspired by the previous flags of Oman and is there to represent the rule of the Sultans which has been ruling Oman since the middle part of the 18th century. And that is also there to symbolize the different problems and the different people that participated in the struggle for independence. The white color historically represents the Islamic Religious leaders and that also stands for peace and prosperity. Green is also there to represent Islam and the fertility of the land as well. It is also used to represent the Al Jabal and the Al Akhdar mountains in the north east side of the country. The defined proportions of the flag of Oman are very simple and can be defined at the ratios of 1:2 respectively. It would be very interesting to note and keep in mind here that the proportions of the flag of Oman were changed from the ratios of 2:3 respectively to the ratio of 1:2 respectively. The National flag of Oman is very young yet it has a glorious design and is composed of many colors that each stands to represent the great Country and tell the story of its plight for and final gaining of Independence.
