Ontario Flag
The history of the flag of Ontario is not very old, only dates back in the 19th century. But like the other provincial flags of the Canada, there is a big difference between the Ontario flag adoption and the creation of the Ontario province itself. There is a century difference between Ontario creation and Ontario’s flag adoption. As the Ontario came in the union of the Canada on 1st July 1867. There is a 98 years difference between adoption and creation. The Ontario’s provincial flag was approved by the government of the Ontario on 21st may 1965.
The impotent fact about the flag of Ontario or regarding the name of the Ontario is very interesting. The Ontario name is initiated from the inhabitant of North Americans. Ontario word is taken from the Huron terminology. In Huron terminology, meaning of the “onitar” words is Lake, while the meaning of the remaining “io” is beautiful. In the Iroquoian terminology, Ontario is known as kanadario, and meaning of the kanadario is sparkling water. The word Ontario was come into view in 1641 and this word depict the lands that run with the great eastern lakes. Later on, in 1867, this name was approved by the officials of the province as a province name.
The official motto of the Ontario is: Ut Incepit fidelis Sic Permanent and the meaning of this motto is “Loyal she starts, loyal she remains”. The name of the west Canada was changed later into Ontario.

The Ontario provincial flag is almost same as the Manitoba flag except the slight difference of coat of arms design. So the description of the Ontario flag is approximately same as the flag of Manitoba. The flag is made with the proportion of 1:2. The background of the flag of Ontario is painted with the red color. At the upper left side or the quarter of the flag, the union jack of the Great Britain is drawn. While at the right center of the flag the coat of arms of the province is drawn. The coat of arms features; two basic portions. At the uppermost portion of the shield of coat of arms, St. George cross is drawn with red color and has white color background on the upper portion. Then at the lower portion of the shield on the Ontario’s flag is of green background color. The lower green color portion holds three maple leaves, these three leaves are attached or based on a single point. The color of the maple leaves are orange red.
The meaning of the Ontario’s provincial flag is associated with the England like many other provincial flags of Canada. The St. George cross on the shield of the flag of Ontario symbolizes the England flag that contain St. George cross. While the three maple leaves on the flag depict the Canada itself. On Ontario’s Flag the maple leaf is recognized as sign for the land proposed by Garter King of Arms. On a green background under the Cross of St. George three maple leaves of golden color drawn on the arms shield.
