Paraguay Flag

The official Flag of Paraguay was finally adopted on the 27th of November 1842 and making it one of the oldest flag. It was adopted once Paraguay was said to have gained it final independence from the Clutches of Spain. Just like the country Peru, Spain had also taken control over the Paraguay and Paraguay finally fought and won its independence on the 15th of May in 1811 from Spain. The practice of having the emblem on each side of the Flag of Paraguay (both back and front) dates back to the time of José de Francia who was in command from year1814 to year 1840

The description of the flag of Paraguay is very simple and is there fore very easy to explain the flags colors are very simple. If someone wants to ask what are the colors of the flag of Paraguay it would be a very simple answer to that question and that would be: there are only three colors. These three colors are distributed amongst the flag in the form of three horizontally shaped stripes and those stripes are of the following colors. The top stripe is of the color red and after that is the middle stripe it is of the color white the last and final stripe is of the color blue. The white stripe that is situated in the middle of the flag of Paraguay and that has the emblem on it. The front and back of the flag of Paraguay both have different pictures and those are the coat of arms on the front and the treasure arms on the back, the front coat of arms shows a five pointed yellow colored star that is situated in the center of a blue colored disk. They are both surrounded by the branch of the olive tree and the branch of a palm tree.

On the center of it is the country’s official name that is situated on a circular band. The treasury Seal on the back part of the flag shows the picture of a lion and a red Phrygian cap. Surmounting the seal is the Paraguayan national motto. That when translated stand for ‘Peace and Justice”. The red colored stripe in Paraguayan flag stands to represent courage and equality. The white color in the middle stripe stands for peace, purity and unity of the people of Paraguay. And the final blue color stands for liberty and benevolence. The coat of arms displayed on the obverse side of the Paraguayan flag that is the front side, stands to represent the Independence Day 14 may 1811, the branch of the olive tree represents peace and the palm tree branch represents honor. The treasury seal on the reverse side of the Paraguayan flag stands to represent liberty. The flag of Paraguay is the only flag in the world which has the front and the back side both displaying different emblems. And its proportions are 3:5 respectively.
