Quebec Flag

The Quebec became the province of Canada in the 18th century, while the flag adoption occurred in 19th century. There is always a big difference between creation of the Canada’s province and the flag adoption. Like all other provincial flags of Canada, the province of Quebec flag was also adopted after a century, round about 90 years was spend for the flag adoption. As the Quebec became a part of the Canada’s confederation on 1st July 1867 and emerged as a province of the Canada. There are some interesting facts about the name of the province of Quebec. The name of the Quebec is taken from an Algonquin terminology. The meaning of the Quebec is narrow passage. The name of the province is selected and inspired from the river of St. Lawrence that flows near the Quebec province. But the interesting fact is the point or place of the Quebec province where the river touches, that point is very narrow. So that was the reason of choosing the name of the province relating to this fact of the river. The name Quebec was given to the province in 1763 by the British officials because Quebec was a new ruled colony of the Great Britain. The official motto of the Quebec province is Je Me Souviens, and the meaning of this motto is I remember.

The Quebec provincial flag description is very simple because of absence of any complicated emblem on the flag. The Quebec flag is made with the general flag proportion that is 2:3. Firstly the color of the fleur de lis is not golden, its white and it totally symbolizes the purity and harmony that actually belongs to the Virgin Mary.
