Samoa Flag
The history of the Samoan flag is not that much old only dates back in the 19th century. The flag of Samoan is not painted with the blood-shed of freedom fighters. There is a big difference between the adoption of the Samoan flag and the independence of the Samoan country itself. The difference is not of one or two years, its 12 years difference between the flag adoption and the independence of the Samoa. The first design of the flag of Samoa was made in 1948. Before the independence, the Samoa was a small territory of the New Zealand. The Samoan flag was adopted on 24th February 1949 after one year of the Samoan flag creation. In 1949, the Samoa was not an independent state, and was still part of the New Zealand. Samoa became an independent state on 1st January 1962 and emerged as an independent state and came out from the rule of the New Zealand. So there was a big difference between flag adoption and country independence. The Samoa flag introduced in 1948 was almost same as the current Samoan national flag, but there is a little bit difference, the stars in the Southern Cross pattern on the flag of Samoan were four in 1948, but on February 1949 the fifth star was added on the flag. In 1997, the name of the island changed. The old name was Western Samoan, while the new name of the country is Independent State of Samoa. The flag was not affected with the changes in the name of country.

There is a blue color square drawn at the top left corner or at the upper quarter of the flag. There are five stars drawn within the blue color square. These five pointed stars are of white color and drawn in the Southern Cross pattern. The meaning of the Samoan flag is also simple and not very complicated. The red color on the flag of Samoan depicts the bravery and courage of the people of Samoan. Freedom, sovereignty, and independence of the Samoan country are depicted by the blue color on the flag. While the white color of the stars depicts the purity of the Samoan’s people. The five stars on the flag of Samoan represent the collection of the Southern Cross. These five stars are known by the name of Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and the smallest star is known by the name of Epsilon. The cross depicts the geographical location of the Samoan in the world and also shows it association with the New Zealand, as the Samoan was previously linked with the New Zealand.
