Scotland Flag

The date of this flag being adopted by the country is unknown and therefore an estimation of its age and status is not possible. The reason that it is considered to be the oldest flag is that the flag is used as the national flag of Scotland since the time of the 12th century and the addition of the sign of the cross which is also known as the St. Andrew’s cross is used as its sign since the early part of the 15th century. The next morning when the king looked to the sky he saw that the clouds had formed a shape of an X shaped cross in the sky and with that he led his army and they were victorious and that was when he took St. Andrew as the patron saint of Scotland. An interesting factor to know and note regarding the flag of Scotland is that the design of the Scottish flag is the combination of three flags that make up the design of the British Union Jack. It is also seen that it was after a total time period of about 300 years that Scotland gained the right to govern itself and be independent that when the opening of the Parliament in Edinburgh took place and the date for that was 1st of July and the year was 1999.
