South Africa Flag

The Old South African Flag is one which was officially adopted on the 27th of April in the year 1994. Therefore it is not considered to be a very old one especially when it is compared to all the flags that are used by many countries to represent them selves all around the world. When the Nelson Mandela was elected as the South African President, the flag of South Africa was adopted. The country went under a great and prominent political transformation and became a democratic country. Thus, to represent these new changes and the new South Africa a new flag was adopted. The flag was made the South Africa's state herald named Mr. F. Brownell. Former efforts were made to find a new South African flag with the help of the public turned out to be useless. Like mentioned above the flag of South Africa is actually considered to be one of the newest flags in the world and the South Africa became independent on 31st of May in the year 1910.

The description and design of South Africa National Flag is very unique and a very simple, therefore it is very easy to explain. The design is a unique one because of the arrangement of its line and stripe structure. The New flag of South Africa is made up of two horizontally shaped stripes which are both of equal width and the colors of those stripes are: top stripe is of red color and bottom stripe is of blue color. The two stripes are then seen to be separated by a third stripe which is present in the middle of this flag. This stripe is the one which consists of a white border and splits the flag more towards the left side of the flag of South Africa and forms an over all unique Y shape on the flag. The color of this middle stripe is green. On the left side of the flag there is a black isosceles triangle which is outlined in yellow.

The South African Flag colors meaning have no official significance and meaning however one explanation could be that these colors such as the black, green and yellow color are all those that represent Nelson Mandela’s political party, they also represent the National Congress and the former Boer republics flags. The Y shape, green middle stripe which is bordered in white, separates the red and blue stripes and forms a horizontal Y and, represents the convergence of South Africa's diverse society and the desire for unity. The South African flag is mainly formed from the older South African flags design and the past meanings of the colors were the color red represented blood shed, the color green represented the land of Africa and its fertility, the color Black was there to represent the African people and the color white was used to represent the European people, blue symbolized the open skies and yellow stood for the representation of the natural wealth of the land in the form of minerals basically such as the abundance of Gold. The proportions of the flag are 2:3 respectively.
