South Dakota Flag
The history of state flag South Dakota proud banner have to essentially start with the fact that State of South Dakota based on two official designed state flags with an official coat of arms. The state seal is a most well-known emblem of the flag design and word "Under God the People Rule” is the motto of that great seal. In 1885, the design has been approved by the Constitutional Convention. In 1889, again Constitutional Convention Dr. Ward and the Committee on the State Seal worked out John Banvard of Watertown to design a steal.
Until the year 1909 manifestly, South Dakota had no official state flag. In 1909 Senator Ernest May of Deadwood wanted a South Dakotas flag. McNeil, former operator of KGFX radio of Pierre, designed which was later adopted. South Dakota state Flag features are a blazing sun, on an azure background. Later, he shifted that on the repeal of the blazing sun appeared the Great Seal of the State of South Dakota in dark blue. Then, in the same year Ida M. Anding, legislative librarian designed the South Dakota’s flag consist of a field of blue which is one and two-thirds as long as its wide, in the center of which a gold blazing sun is two-fifths as wide in diameter as the width of the flag. In the arch of the sphere on top of this sun arranged yellow color letters, the words 'South Dakota' and underneath this sun arranged the words in gold letters in the arch of the sphere, 'The Sunshine State', and on the repeal of the blazing sun. Until the year 1963, it was the only official state flag that became progressively more obvious by this time that the cost to manufacture a flag with a different emblem on each side was expensive. There were few South Dakota State flags in existence to the degree so that they were seldom flown. A two-sided flag became too classy to manufacture in huge quantities, so in 1963 legislation was approved that added the seal to the center of the sun and made the same design on both sides. The Legislation endorsed in 1992 modified the official state nickname to the Mount Rushmore State, and the flag design was amended to imitate the change. However, Flags before 1 July, 1992 made, remained legal.
