Spain Flag

The Spain flag was formally announced as the national flag of Spain on 19th December 1981 by the constitution Assembly. It is seen that during that time the kingdom was showing signs and was insisting that they should adopt a flag different in design and coloration form the Bourbon flags, the flags which belonged to the two France and the Two Sicilian countries. These were the countries that formed the principal Bourbon Kingdoms. It is further more seen that in the year 1931 the monarchy was removed and the colors yellow and red were used. The National Flag of Spain as the new republic adopted the flag which consist of the colors red, yellow and purple which were in horizontal stripes. In the year 1936 the older flag got reinstated.

The description of the national flag of Spain is not a very hard one however the colors used are very unique and the design as well. The proportions of the National Flag of Spain are 2:3 respectively. The old National Flag of Spain consists of three stripes of which two are equally sized and one is of wider size. The red color is used in the two equally sized stripes and the wider stripe in the middle of the two equally sized stripes is of yellow color. The monogram of the country is placed on the left side of the middle stripe. The monogram consists of a shield with a crown placed on the top side. Each side of the shield is protected by the pillars known as the Pillars of Hercules. These are actually there to represent the countries Gibraltar and Cueta. Each quarter displays badges of the original Spanish kingdoms. In the centre of the shield is the emblem of the reigning Spanish royal Family,

Original Spanish badges of the Spanish kingdom are displayed on each quarter of the shield. The center of the shield contains the picture of the house of Bourbon which is the reigning Spanish family’s representation as well. The picture is that of a blue colored oval shape that contains a red colored edge and in its center the picture of three Fleur de is present. The representation of Grenada is done on the National Flag of Spain by the picture of a pomegranate and wrapped all the way in a spiral shape is a red scroll that contains the country’s motto on it that is ‘Plus Ultra” which when translated to the English language means ‘there is more beyond’. It is an interesting factor that every year when the young soldiers were finished their services to the Army they were made to take the flag Oath. When the last flag was found had the slightest resemblance to the National Flag of Spain that flag could be traced right back to the late year of the time that Carlos III rules Spain and that was in the year 1785. The military National Flag of Spain doesn’t have the monogram of the country’s coat of arms. Citizens and commoners are never sworn in to the flag in the same way as the soldiers do.

There is a lot of information on the Spanish Flag and meanings also in the public library of Spain. Also the history of the Spain and association of Spain with Muslims in detail can be searched out on internet. Lots of websites give free information on this topic.
