Switzerland Flag

The official flag of Switzerland was adopted finally on the 12th of Dec in year 1889. That makes the Flag of Switzerland one of the oldest flags in the world as compared to the flags used by many countries over the world to represent themselves. The flag of Switzerland is said to have its roots in the Holy Roman Empire and has been recognized as an independent state under the treaty of Westphalia since the year 1648. However its status is still seen and known as the neutral country. In order to keep them selves away from their enemies it has been observed that the soldiers of Switzerland that were ready to go into battle had emblems on their shirts. Those were pictures of white crosses placed on red back grounds. They were also used as symbols of the soldier’s Christian faith. The flag was adopted as the current design is known as the national flag of Switzerland but before that it was used as the military flag of Switzerland since the year 1814 when the white cross on a red base appeared on the seal of the country Switzerland flag. The flag remained the military flag of Switzerland till the year 1848.
