Tanzania Flag

The flag of Tanzania was officially adopted on the 30th of June and the year was 1964. It is seen in history that two countries namely Tanganyika and the other one called Zanzibar joined together and gave birth to the country which is now known as Tanzania. This took place in the year 1964. It is also seen through historical evidence that the original flag of the country Tanganyika was of the colors green and had a yellow stripe on it which had the color black on the edge as a horizontal stripe. This was also centrally placed on the flag. The flag of the country Zanzibar was also a horizontal striped flag which was comprised of a tri color scheme. The colors used were blue, black, and green. As the designs of both these flags were joint to form the flag of Tanzania that is why they choose this diagonally shaped one that gives equal status to both the designs of the respective flags.

The colors of the flag of Tanzania are one which is of a very unique and has a very simple design. If any one wants to inquire as to what the design and the coloration of the flag of Tanzania are then the answer to that question would be a very simple one and that would be: a unique yet simple design and interesting color combination. The colors used in the flag of Tanzania are green, blue, black and the color yellow. The colors are distributed amongst the various stripes that the flag of Tanzania has on it. The flag design is unique as mentioned above it is one which consists of stripes that are diagonally shaped. There are in total a number of five stripes. The top most stripe is of the color green. The bottom most stripe is of the color blue and in the center of these two stripes is one stripe that is of the color black. Along the other sides of the black stripes there are two yellow colors thinner stripes as well making that a total number of five stripes that are diagonally placed on the flag. The top and bottom stripe sort of form two triangles. The significance and the meaning of the flags design and coloration is very interesting, the design for example has special significance as the fact has been mentioned earlier that the design was made such that both the countries when joined together and formed Tanzania could be given equal representation and that is what has been done through the design. The colors are there used with specific symbolization purposes. The green stripe on the flag of Tanzania is there to represent the fertility of the land and the agricultural richness of Tanzania. The black color in the middle stripe is there to represent the people of Tanzania. The Eastern Coastline as in the Indian Ocean is also given representation in the flag of Tanzania and the mineral wealth of the country is represented by the use of the color yellow. It would be an interesting factor to keep in mind that it is a known factor that the island of Zanzibar united with Tanganyika and that is what has formed the country of Tanzania and this happened in 1964 but it is flying rumor that the island is currently planning to introduce its own specific flag. The proportions of the flag are 2:3 respectively.
