Turkey Flag
The Flag of Turkey has been in use since the year 1844. However, it was not officially adopted by the country as its national flag on 5th of June in the year 1936. The original design of the national Flag of Turkey is one which consisted of a complete green base with a crescent on its front side; however, this design was changed by the Sultan Salim III in the year 1793 when he replaced the green background with a complete red one. The star that is present on the national Flag of Turkey, as it is seen through history was added much later to the design in the year 1834. The Turkish Flag is considered to be a very old flag in the history of the world specially when compared to the other flags used by different countries to represent them on a world wide basis. As the flag is a very old one therefore, the truth behind many of the rumors and explanations regarding its creation, its history and its adoption along with design and coloration are very hard to validate.
The description of the Turkey flag is very old however it is very unique and interesting as well. If any one was to inquire as to what colors and design of the national Flag of Turkey are the answer would be a very simple one, two colors and a very simple design. The design of the Flag of Turkey as mentioned above is a very simple one consisting of a plain red base with a white crescent moon and star consisting of five points made on it. The positioning of the white star and moon is towards the left side of the flag, which is overall rectangular in shape. The significance of the colors and the design though do not have very accurate explanations or meaning yet the explanations present are as follows: red is considered to be a very traditional Islamic color and it is seen that the Ottoman Empire who were known as the former rulers of Turkey used the color red for its representation. However it is seen in the year 1918 the Ottoman Empire collapsed. Considered to be signs of good luck and prosperity the star and the crescent are ancient symbols of Islam. Red being a very prominent color is used as the base of the Turkish flag and the crescent and star symbols, even though considered to be symbols of Islam are seen being used in the Asian minor long before the advent of Islam.
