United Arab Emirates Flag

The official Flag of the United Arab Emirates was adopted finally on the day that the country was originally formed as a result of the union between seven sheikhdoms. That took place on the 2nd of December and the year for that was 1971. It is seen in history that before that union the seven separate Emirates were known as Trucial States and they were:

1. Dubai
2. Fujairah
3. Ras al-Khaimah
4. Sharjah
5. Abu Dhabi
6. Ajman
7. Umm al-Qaiwan

They were called the Trucial states as that was with reference to the truce that took place between the British and some of the Arab Sheikhs. That took place in the 19th century and until the middle part of the 19th century that area was very famous for all the pirates that resided there and was therefore also known as the Pirate Coast to many people.
