US Air Force Flag

US Air Force is the aerial welfare branch of US armed forces. US Air Force is one branch of seven uniform services. USAF is one of the largest and most technological air force of the world. First it was part of the US army; it became a separate independent branch of US Military on 18th September, 1947. National security act of 1947, Section 207(g), is reserved for the design of a seal for the United States Air Force Flag. Chief of the Heraldic Branch, Office of the Quartermaster General, Department of the Army, Arthur E. Dubois designed the seal for the USAF Flag. This seal was submitted by secretary of the Air Force, W. Stuart Symington, to the Director Bureau of the Budget, Mr. James E. Webb. The seal was approved by President Truman, on 1st November, 1947. In 1949 a project was started to make USAF Flag. In 1950, the design for the USAF Flag was prepared, in which the Air Force department flag was represented with a shield and coat of arm forces from the seal of the Air Force. It was also decided that subordinate department will use similar flag, but smaller in size. Miss Dorothy G. Gatchell is credited for the design of final version of USAF Flag in 1950. 1951 is considered as the USAF Flag Display year for the first time. The Flag was appeared for the first time in public. Many people were gathered there for the first Display of USAF Flag. At this occasion the French President Vincent Auriol, was receiving parade of honor in Washington. The Flag designed by Miss Dorothy G. Gatchell in 1951, is not changed till now. Thus it is assumed that very less or no changes have occurred in the USAF Flag, since it was designed for the first time.

Officially USAF Flag is called “Ceremonial Departmental Flag”. The flag consist of the Air Force Arms coat, 13 white stars encircling the Air Force Seal. The Arms coat, 13 stars and Air Force seal are placed at the center of the flag; the background color of the flag is blue. Beneath arms coat and Air Force Seal, the words “United States Air Force” is written over a scroll. The Flag size is 4 feet 4 inches by 5 feet 6 inches. The official colors of the air force are blue and golden yellow, which are predominant in the flag. 13 white stars represent the 13 original colonies. The Arms coat is made of crest and a shield. The crest is made up of an eagle, wreath and cloud. The eagle symbolized the airpower of the United States, which is depicted in the natural colors. The lower part of the shield is white.

The indoor display of USAF Flag is different from out door display of the flag. This means there are two versions of the USAF Flag of indoor and out door parade. The proper indoor display of USAF Flag is same as indoor display of USAF Flag, and same flag is used in both cases. Normally a Horizontal display of USAF Flag is seemed in ground ceremonies.
