Virgin Islands Flag
The flag of the U.S Virgin Islands is one which was officially adopted on the 17th of the month of May and the year for that happening was 1921. It is therefore also considered to be an older flag if kept in comparison with the flags of the many different countries of the world used for their representation. It is one flag that has been known to have been based on the United States coat of arms which is also known world wide as the Great Seal of the United States.
Before they were known as the Virgin Islands the place was known as the Danish West Indies and that remained a fact till the year 1917 as it was in the year that Denmark decided to and actually sold the islands to the United States. After that they bought the islands for a total estimated sum of 25 million dollars and that was when the name of the place was changed from the Danish West Indies to the Virgin Islands of United States. The flags thus used by the country for representation purposes before they were bought over by the United States all had the incorporations of the Danish Flag in them. That was before the year 1917.
