Yemen Flag

The official Flag of Yemen was finally adopted on the 22nd of May in the year 1990 and is there fore not a very old flag. In fact if seen in comparison to the other flags used by other countries to represent themselves then this flag is relatively very young. The adoption of the flag of Yemen took place only after the two sides that is the northern side and the southern sides of Yemen were joined and became one. The stripes on the flag that are Red and white and Black in color respectively were also seen to be present on the separate flags used by the North Yemen and by South Yemen to represent themselves as separate places, hence when they were joined together the colors were also combined to form the official national Flag of Yemen. The colors that are used on the flag of Yemen are seen as being specifically the colors of Arabia or specifically as they are known as the Arab Colors. The flag of Yemen is said to also be very similar to the flag of the Arab Liberation Flag.

The colors and description of the flag of Yemen is very unique and is one which has very simple coloration. If anyone wants to ask that what are the colors used in the flag of Yemen and what is its design then the answer would be very simple and that would be, only three colors and simple design. The flag is comprised of three horizontal shaped stripes and they are of different colors. The top stripe is of the color red in the Flag of Yemen and the bottom stripe is of the color black. There is another colored stripe in the middle which is of the color white. The flag is over all of rectangular shape which makes it similar to many other flags used by many different countries.

The meaning of the colors and the design are also very simple and unique. It has been seen through history that the colors red, white and black have long been linked with the people of Arab countries and have long been used to also represent the Islamic Faith for centuries. The significance of the color red used in the top most stripe on the flag of Yemen is there to represent specifically the immense blood shed that took place during the country’s fight for freedom and independence so that symbolizes blood and loss of life. The white color is there and is used with the notion of representing some thing that has been long represented in other flags by the same color and that is the representation of the Unity of the future and also the hope that the people have for a brighter future. The black color used in the bottom most stripes on the flag of Yemen is there to specifically give the country a constant reminder and also to represent to the rest of the world the story of the dark past that the country saw while it was under control of other countries. It would be interesting to note and keep in mind here that both the flags of North Yemen and the flag of South Yemen have the same design and the two also have the same or similar colors combinations as well however the fact remains that each of the flags carries its own unique different symbol. The dimensions of the flag are as follows 2:3 respectively.
